    Bantams must resist G-force
Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu has scored four times for Darlington to add to his six strikes while on loan at City
Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu has scored four times for Darlington to add to his six strikes while on loan at City

Stuart McCall gave Darlington boss Dave Penney a nudge to snap up Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu when City decided not to extend his loan.

And on Saturday he will be hoping that his generosity does not rebound when the Bantams come face to face with their former striker.

Ndumbu-Nsungu is in line for a start for Darlington after coming off the bench to net their dramatic last-minute equaliser against Morecambe on Monday.

With former Huddersfield hitman Pawel Abbott possibly out for the rest of the season and top scorer Tommy Wright struggling with a bruised hip, Congo-born Ndumbu-Nsungu will take a starring role against the team he scored six goals for during the first half of the season.

McCall said: "G is a lovely lad and kept in touch even when he went back to Gillingham. I had a few phone calls from other people about him and I recommended him to Dave.

"He's got four goals for them now and obviously wants to do well against us. We hope it works out for him this season but we'll try to make sure we keep him quiet."

It is quite an old boys' reunion, with several players having appeared for both teams, including Joe Colbeck, Barry Conlon and Paul Heckingbottom. Ben Parker, who today extended his Darlington loan from Leeds for the rest of the campaign, made 40 appearances in a City shirt last season.

The fourth-placed Quakers have hit a slight wobble and McCall is confident that City can get something. A four-point Easter haul has lifted the spirit and left the manager with a few selection posers after he made changes for both games.

"A lot of people probably played as well as they have for a long time," he said.

"TJ Moncur is back with us and raring to go but I thought Mark Bower came in and did ever such a good job. There are other areas of the park up front, at right back, left midfield and in the centre where there are also decisions to be made.

"I fancied Darlington to be in the top three from the start. They are a solid side who've been up there all season but maybe a few nerves are starting to show and the pressure is on them.

"The home game against them was one of our better performances. We went into that on the back of losing five games in a row and played really well even though it finished 0-0.

"I remember Dave admitting afterwards that he didn't know how they had come away with a clean sheet and a point. If we can give the same performance on Saturday then I will be more than pleased."

The final transfer deadline passed today without any ins or outs at Valley Parade.

Penney went back to Doncaster to sign young winger Craig Nelthorpe - his 15th loan capture - but McCall resisted the temptation to make any late additions of his own.

He added: "We had a sniff at a couple of players but nothing has come to fruition. We did look at bringing in a centre back but he went elsewhere.

"Having said that, Bower has come in and provded his fitness, TJ is back as well as Wethers (David Wetherall) so we've got three in there which should be enough. Hopefully we'll also have Matt Clarke available again before the end of the season, maybe for the last couple of games."

on his day G was a superb player at this level, however he was very inconsistent and some of his performances, particuarly towards the end of his loan, we're awful. he might have been good to sign up, but we only have a certain wage budget and stuart obviously thought he could get a better partner for thorne.

looking at the competition for places (thorne, conlon, daley, brown and topp) i'm not sure how often he'd have played. be good to see him saturday but I don't think we've really missed him.

no doubt the moaners brigade will jump on this interview and use it as an excuse to slag off stuart
