Two Bradford men and a man from Todmorden have appeared in court charged with the murder of teenager Alex Holroyd.

The 19-year-old, who was from Todmorden, died of a stab wound to the chest at Rochdale Hospital following an attack in Brook Street in the town centre on January 9.

Joannis Thompson, 43, of Springwell Drive, West Bowling, and Javid Mohammed, 35, of Fagley Place, Fagley, today appeared at Calderdale Magistrates' Court, based in Halifax.

Todmorden man Hanif Sigbah Mohammed, 24, of Stansfield Road, appeared separately from the Bradford defendants and was charged with the same offence.

Javid Mohammed is also alleged to have conspired with the other two defendants to cause Mr Holroyd grievous bodily harm.

Hanif Mohammed is also said to have conspired with another between September last year and January 9 this year to carry out grievous bodily harm on Mr Holroyd.

The three turned themselves in to police voluntarily and spoke only to confirm their names, ages and addresses.

Representing the Bradford accused was Abdul Iftikhar, who made no application for bail for his clients on the grounds of inpractibility.

Hanif Mohammed's lawyer, Sajjad Shan, who had travelled from his office in London, made an application for bail for his client.

But this was rejected by magistrates due to the seriousness of the crime and the risk of the defendant absconding.

The three will appear at Bradford Crown Court on Friday.
