A man died after being trapped in a car which smashed into a tree.

The accident happened in Woodside Road, Wyke, Bradford, at 6.50pm on Saturday.

The man, who has not yet been named by police but who was believed to be in his 20s, was trapped in the silver Peugeot and had to be cut out by firecrews from Odsal.

The car had rolled on to its side as a result of the impact.

One firefighter involved in the rescue said: "We tried our best to get him out of the vehicle and resuscitate him but unfortunately we heard he died later from his injuries.

"He was a young lad who looked to be in his 20s."

Another man who was also travelling in the vehicle received minor injuries.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said it was not yet clear who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

"Investigations into how the accident happened and who was driving the vehicle are ongoing," said the spokesman. "We are still in the process of trying to notify all the family members."

Floral tributes have been laid at the front of the tree where the accident happened and debris from the car remained at the scene yesterday.

A post-mortem examination to determine the cause of the man's death was due to be carried out today.

Meanwhile police have not yet been able to trace all relatives of a 25-year-old motorist who died after he suffered head injuries in a crash on a moorland road.

The man, who lived in Burley-in-Wharfedale but who originates from Holland, was travelling towards Menston in a black Citroen C2 when the accident happened at High Eldwick on Otley Road near to Dick Hudson's pub shortly before 3.30pm last Thursday.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The man was from Holland and efforts to contact his relativesare ongoing."

The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he died last Friday.

The road was closed for several hours after the accident while police accident investigators examined the scene.
