Royal British Legion holds Centenary Square do for Armed Forces Week

On Monday, June 20, at 11.00 hours there will be a flag raising ceremony, presided over by The Reverend, Councillor Paul Flowers, Chaplain to the Royal British Legion in Centenary Square, Bradford to start the celebrations of Armed Forces Week.

All Veterans associations are invited to attend the flag-raising ceremony along with their standards, this will be followed by refreshments in City Hall.

Also taking place in the same week is Uniform to Work Day; this takes place on Wednesday, June 22, and highlights the important role that reservists play in serving their country.

Uniform to Work Day will mean many reservists leaving their suit and tie at home and putting on their Forces uniform to wear to work instead.

Last year, thousands of reservists took part in the initiative to show their pride in giving their time for their country. Uniform to Work Day is part of the build-up to Armed Forces Day, when the public are encouraged to show their support to serving personnel and their families, reservists and veterans. The week-long celebrations will end with the Armed Forces Day events in Centenary Square on Saturday, June 25, starting at 11.00 hours with the drumhead service, hosted by the Lord Mayor, Councillor Naveeda Ikram (pictured), and special guest speaker Roger Whitaker, Deputy Lieutenant for West Yorkshire, and continues with entertainment and exhibition stand,s including the Army field kitchen and other military units, until 16.30 hours.

Diary Dates Today: The Royal Artillery Association meets at 19.30 hours at the RAOB club, Otley Road.

Wednesday: The Coldstream Guards Association meets at 19.30 hours at Northcliffe Golf Club, Saltaire.

The Green Howards Association meets at 13.30 hours at Headingley Club, Leeds. The Keighley branch of the Royal British Legion meets at 19.30 hours at Holingsroyd House, Lord Street.
