Special day to celebrate services

Details of some of the events planned for this year's Armed Forces Day are now available on the event’s website.

The aim of Armed Forces Day (now in its third year) is to boost public support and appreciation of all those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces.

It provides the public an opportunity to recognise the contribution that the Armed Forces have made and continue to make to the nation, and for the Armed Forces and veterans to know that they are valued and respected The city of Edinburgh has been chosen to host the 2011 national event and, as with previous years, this will be complemented by a variety of community-led events in towns and cities across the UK. The day itself is Saturday, June 25.

Details of events planned in Edinburgh and elsewhere, as well as how you can show your support, is available on the Armed Forces Day website.

These will include the flying of a special flag from official buildings, the chance for reservisits to wear their uniforms to work and the wearing of a special veterans badge on Wednesday, June 22.
