Chance for Sid to live up to hype

Nadeem Siddique has signed a three-fight deal which he hopes will finally test his boxing credentials.

Despite boasting a perfect 18-win record, Siddique admits himself that he is yet to face credible opposition in the ring since turning pro in 2002.

The Manningham fighter is desperate to dismiss the inevitable suggestions that he is all hype and has accused the more respected names of running scared in the past.

But his hopes of getting a decent shot have been boosted with the new contract offered by Hennessy Sports.

Mick Hennessy, who also promotes Junior Witter, wants to offer Siddique the platform to showcase his skills - and there is even the possibility of a September date against British lightweight champion and stablemate Lee Meager.

Siddique said: "I just want that chance, that's what I've always said. If I can get that one proper fight then people can make up their minds about me.

"If I get beaten, then they can say I was all hype. But I back my own ability and if I can pull it off then I'll show everyone that what I've been trying to say is true."

Siddique was scheduled to appear on the undercard for Carl Johanneson's destructive win over Billy Corcoran at York Hall last week.

Originally down against Carl Allen, Siddique was happy to face stand-in Tye Williams when the experienced Wolverhampton man pulled out. But when Dewsbury's Williams also got cold feet, Siddique refused to go up against a third choice.

"I'm staying at lightweight now because that's where my future lies if I am going to get an opportunity. I weighed in at 9st 13lb for my last fight (David Kehoe in April) and was down to 9st 11 on the day so it's not a problem."
