Award-winning pharmacist Ashley Cohen is one step ahead of Govern-ment plans for pharmacists to provide more health care services.

He has opened The Pudsey Pharmacy in Chapeltown, Pudsey, which is his second shop in two years.

He has established the business as a joint venture with four local GPs after they approached him to get involved following his success at his first shop in Leeds.

The new shop will be open for 100 hours a week, providing a range of services, including free diabetes checks, blood pressure monitoring, medicine usage reviews, emergency hormonal contraception, smoking cessation and weight management.

GPs from Pudsey health centre, Robin Lane medical centre, Armley medical practice and Priory View medical centre are involved in the project.

Dr Robert Ross from Pudsey Health Centre said: "This joint collaboration came about as local GPs wanted to get back to the old fashioned values of traditional pharmacy."
