£9m deal is boost for firm

The travel arrangements of thousands of civil servants are to be handled by a Bradford-based company that has landed two new contracts worth £9m.

Redfern Travel has been appointed by the National Audit Office and the Highways Agency to provide travel arrangements for staff.

The company will be supplying online booking services enabling direct individual access, supported by specialist staff in its Bradford and York travel centres.

Redfern will supply the National Audit Office and the Highways Agency with online rail booking facilities including ticket printers at their regional offices.

Managing director Ian Wotton said: "It speaks volumes for our service when we are the chosen supplier to government departments such as the National Audit Office.

"Our business with the private sector is also increasing."

Redfern Travel, which was founded in 1950, has seen dramatic growth after being acquired by Alpha-Omega Travel in 1999.

Last year turnover increased by 60per cent from £9m to £14m and is forecast to exceed £22m in 2008.

Ian Wotton said: "The future is looking extremely positive. We have developed integrated booking systems which offer substantial savings on travel and processing costs.

"Savings can be substantial for customers, with the cost of processing individual rail and air journeys cut from £45 using their systems to less than £5 using ours.

"We have systems which enable us to handle travel arrangements for the largest of organisations. Our systems also provide management information with full analysis of travel patterns.

"We can even provide data on carbon emissions and advise on the most environmentally friendly travel solution."
