Global research publisher Emerald Publishing Group has expanded further by moving into emerging markets in Europe, Asia and Africa.

The £25 million Bingley-based business, which has 50,000 of its research articles downloaded every day, has also made appointments to strengthen its operations in some of its key offices.

Emerald, a leading independent publisher of research based at Dowley Gap, Bingley, has appointed business managers to operate in the Czech Republic, Taiwan and South Africa.

The company has doubled the size of its Indian operation after appointing five new people in its Delhi office.

Emerald has also appointed its first senior regional manager outside the UK after Deanna Wamae joined the company’s Boston office as senior vice- president of the Americas.

Joint chief executive Richard Bevan said: “These latest appointments are all a direct result of the company’s decision to get closer to its markets and customers.

“More than 50,000 of our research articles are now downloaded every day and the demand for the high quality content we provide is continuing to rise.

“By expanding our international presence, we remain highly responsive to our customers’ demands and we are better able to serve their needs.

“Our expansion into South Africa is the first time Emerald has had a presence on the African continent and it also ties in with us launching several products that are specific to the region including The African Journal and Management Studies.

“This facilitates our efforts to support and develop authorship around the world and in turn increases the creation and dissemination of knowledge.”

Emerald now employs a 250-strong team working in the UK, Australia, Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Dubai, India, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, Taiwan and the United States.

The company was founded in 1967 as MCB University Press by Dr Keith Howard and three other academics at the Bradford Management Centre to focus on management disciplines.

More than 3,000 university libraries subscribe to Emerald’s collections. The company provides information to 98 of the world’s top 100 business schools.
