Bradford packaging firm expanding

Just months after opening its new Scottish operation, a Bradford-based packaging company is expanding again, this time in the South of England.

In a move that is expected to create 25 new jobs. Mailway Packaging Solutions, based at Pitcliffe Way, West Bowling, has launched Mailway Southern through a partnership with storage and distribution specialist, Lenham Storage, in Maidstone, Kent.

The operation will initially handle all the UK contract packing, storage and distribution work for one of the world’s largest confectionery companies, before being expanded to offer all Mailway’s specialist contract packing capabilities.

Mailway Southern will be targeted at businesses in the food, confectionery, cosmetics, and health and beauty care markets.

Mailway’s commercial director Steve Whitehouse said: “Cost and environmental impact are now far greater concerns for our target industries than they were in years past. Our intention with both Mailway Southern and Mailway Scotland is to alleviate such concerns and broaden the appeal of the business by taking our innovative and technically driven contract packing solutions in to key geographical markets.”

The partnership will also remove the logistical difficulties previously caused by having to transport goods from storage to packer, back to storage and then on to the distributor by having all these services under one roof.

Keith Abrehart, managing director of Lenham Storage, said: “Mailway Southern has the potential to be a huge success, especially when you consider the significant reduction in food miles, and subsequent environmental credibility it will bring to companies opting to use our one-stop contract packing, storage and distribution solution.”

Mailway Southern will open for business in August. Mailway opened a new Scottish operation in April after acquiring the contract packing division of Glasgow-based Benchmark Promotional Support Services where 40 new jobs were planned Last year Mailway, which expects to grow by 15 per cent in 2009, secured £3 million of finance to help fund its expansion plans from Bank of Scotland.
