Staff from Yorkshire branches of insurance giant Towergate are joining colleagues for a 500-mile walk around the county boundary to raise money for ChildLine.
Teams from the company’s offices across the county will take it in turns to relay around the border and will finish the challenge on Yorkshire Day, Saturday, August 1.
The aim is to raise £25,000 for ChildLine Yorkshire which will be matched by Towergate to help expand the confidential children’s helpline service and enable ChildLine’s volunteer counsellors to answer more calls for help, including those from Bradford youngsters. Named the Yorkie Walkie Talkie, it will see different members of staff walking, cycling, horse riding and sailing routes of ten miles each.
The route has been broken up into five sections which will be tackled by 110 members of staff along with their family and friends.
Esther Rantzen, president of ChildLine and an NSPCC trustee, said: “It is fantastic that Towergate offices across Yorkshire are all working together to raise such vital funds for ChildLine through the Yorkie Walkie Talkie event.
“Because of their support we will be able to save young lives and protect children from pain - on their behalf.”
Julian Palmer, of Towergate’s Charitable Foundation, was due to take part today.
He said: “We’ll do the walking, or cycling, so that ChildLine can do the talking to help vulnerable children.
“The Yorkie Walkie Talkie brings together our businesses in Yorkshire with the local communities who are supporting our challenge and every £1 raised will be matched by Towergate to help even more local children.”
