A timber merchant has taken the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to Bradford after its former DIY store was demolished.

Arnold Laver used to occupy a large yellow building near Forster Square but work to knock down the building is now complete and the site is earmarked for redevelopment as part of the City Centre Masterplan.

The plot is the proposed location for the fourth phase of the £450 million Bradford Channel scheme.

Developers hope construction work on the first phase of the Channel project can get underway early next year.

Mark Bower, a director at Arnold Laver, said: "Our former DIY store site in Bradford has recently been demolished.

"The site is likely to be developed as part of the Channel Scheme.

"Arnold Laver is very much committed to Bradford and we have our 12-acre Manningham Sawmills site, further up Canal Road, which is used by our Timber World and builders' merchant businesses.

"Further along the road at the junction with Stanley Road, we have our kitchen design and distribution facility, which designs and supplies kitchens for many of the country's leading house builders."
