Bradford has become the base of a new waste management operation for West Yorkshire.
Recycling company Yorwaste has expanded into the district by opening a new waste transfer station in Low Moor this month in a move that has created four new jobs.
The new commercial waste and recycling collection service is serving not only Bradford, but surrounding areas including Leeds, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Halifax.
It is the latest milestone in the company’s growth as it continues to expand from its North Yorkshire operating areas, stretching from Lincolnshire in the east to Bradford in the west, through parts of Teesside in the north.
The Low Moor transfer station accepts general waste and recycled waste from a range of commercial and industrial premises, including shops, garages and offices.
As part of the new service, Yorwaste is offering its customers more effective ways of recycling cans, plastics, paper and cardboard by using a single recycling container, which is then collected for sorting and separation.
Suitable materials will be sold for recycling, and waste that cannot be recycled will be disposed at a landfill site at Harewood Whin in York.
Roland Bell, Yorwaste’s divisional director, said: “We have been working in an around parts of West Yorkshire for some time, but having a dedicated facility in Bradford will allow us to expand even further and open up new markets for the company.
“The waste transfer facility is close to all the major road links such as the M62, M1 and A1, so it will allow us to provide a cost-effective waste management solution to businesses across West Yorkshire.”
Yorwaste is owned by North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council. It manages more than one million tonnes of waste each year and provides a comprehensive range of services from engineered landfill and recycling to liquid waste treatment and green power generation.
The company’s Yorventure operation supports local communities and has provided more than £7m in grants for approved projects over the past ten years.
