Shipley firm helps training of long-term unemployed

Workplace equipment pro-vider Slingsby is supporting a scheme to use redundant IT equipment to help train the long-term unemployed.

As part of its ongoing investment in technology, Slingsby is giving all of the old equipment at its headquarters in Otley Road, Baildon, to the project, which is being managed by Castleford-based Airedale Computer Recycling.

Specialist software is used to clean and destroy data that could still be stored on hard drives before the computers are given to charities and other good causes.

Some of the equipment will be sold, with the proceeds going to the Chrysalis Youth & Community Project which provides an alternative education system for disaffected or excluded young people.

Managing director Dom-inic Slingsby said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer our support to the work Airedale Computer Recy-cling does. In our business we have to stay at the very forefront of technology and this means regularly replacing equipment that is still relatively new.

“To send this redundant equipment to landfill would be a complete waste.”

Keith Sorrell, recycling development manager at Airedale Computer Recy-cling, said: “It’s really good news when a company like Slingsby can support local enterprise in this manner, while at the same time minimising its carbon footprint.

“The social value of these partnerships can be far reaching.”
