THREE Bradford firms are celebrating after winning national awards.

Janan Stores, in Shearbridge Road, won the Retail Business of the Year prize at the English Asian Business Awards.

Nafees Bakers, of Keighley Road, was named SME Business of the Year and the Power Business of the Year accolade went to Regal Foods (Bradford).

They were three of the 24 winners at the ceremony, which recognised the work of individuals and organisations in the Asian community throughout England.

Janan Stores (Bradford) is a luxury fashion brand retailer which employs 100 people at its seven sites across the country.

Maryam Rehman, Janan operations manager, said: “We are very pleased to have won the award.

"A lot of hard work and dedication from the team has been recognised, as well as the loyalty of our clients.

“It would not have been possible without the hard work of our team.

“It is always good to see our work get recognised in the community.”

Regal Foods, which employs 160 people at its site in Wallis Street, was launched by Younis Chaudhry in 2009, initially to cater for the growing needs of the South Asian consumer in Bradford.

It has developed into a multi-million pound business, distributing nationwide and exporting throughout Europe.

Regal Food Products Group Plc now manufactures an extensive range including cakes, biscuits, popcorn and nuts, savouries, spices and sweets.

Waqar Younis, sales manager, said the award was good recognition for the firm.

He said: “It’s brilliant. It’s just a good way to see our performance and getting on with business growth. It is a good way to be recognised.

“We don’t want to be the biggest, just the best.

“It is a family-run business and the work does not stop for us.”

The awards were handed out at a ceremony held at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly on Monday.
