A BRADFORD businessman is hoping his new product has filled a gap in the market and will be a hit in the chimney sweeping sector.

Lashman Singh, from Clayton, has created an innovate new sweeping sheet with detachable windows.

His company, Sweepmate, sells a range of sweeping sheets which allow people to have their chimneys and fireplaces cleaned without soot getting into their homes.

The new product however, is the first to come with a window to allow a chimney sweep to be able to see what they are doing as they clean.

The product is being officially launched at this year’s Hearth and Home exhibition, the industry’s main exhibition this year.

The exhibition is taking place at the Harrogate International Centre in Ripon Road, Harrogate, from Sunday, June 11, to Tuesday, June 14.

Mr Singh, 67, founded his company in 2015, after spending the past 35 years working as a chimney sweep and liner, and aims through the business to make life easier, quicker and more efficient for fellow chimney sweeps.

Operating from his home in Maythorne Crescent, Clayton, Mr Singh’s company sells a range of products including sweeping and hearth sheets, with seal-tight apertures for cleaning access.

After starting his company in 2015, Mr Singh unveiled the business at the 2015 Harrogate Fireplace Exhibition, and in 2016 won best new product at the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps Trade Show.

Mr Singh, who has been in the industry since 1980, is also a founder member of the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps and the National Association of Chimney Sweeps, of which he is a former vice-president.

Mr Singh, speaking about his new product, said: “They provide easy access to chimneys, while also equipping the operative with ‘eyes’ to see exactly what is happening.

“Never before in the history of chimney sweeping has there been a range of sheets like this for every conceivable job.”
