PLANS have been approved to turn a Grade II-listed former pub, thought to date back to the 16th century, into a new shop.

The currently derelict building was once home to the Spotted House pub, one of the oldest licensed houses in the district until its closure in the 1990s.

The building was given Grade II-listing in the 1980s and falls within the St Paul’s conservation area.

Applicant Mr M Jafari said the new business, the nature of which has not been specified, would create four full-time jobs.

Despite concerns being raised by Bradford Council’s design and conservation and highways departments, planning officer Adam Cayton said: “Permission was granted in 1999 for the use of the building as a restaurant, and this appears to be the last authorised use of the premises. As such, the retail use of the building would constitute permitted development.”
