BRADFORD-born entrepreneur Shazad Talib has taken the Chinese electronics sector - and is winning hands down.

Zini Mobiles Ltd, the electronics manufacturing and trading company he started five years ago in the booming city of Shenzhen in southern China, now employs 350 people.

The £40 million turnover business designs and produces a range of mobile phones and other devices, including headphones.

Its latest venture is a soon-to-be launched mini smartphone complete with touch screen. It will follow on from a mini-mobile measuring just 7.1cm by 2.3cm and weighing around 20 grams.

These phones sell for around £25-£30 and more than one million have been sold so far. Shazad expects sales to top five million in markets around the world.

Former Bradford College student Shazad, who grew up in Heaton, is also planning to establish a UK sales, repair and distribution centre in the Bradford area which will employ more than 30 people initially.

Shazad , who worked in his father’s textile business after leaving college, was always fascinated by gadgets .

“Even as a kid at school I would be working on ideas and drawing things. I was also inventing things in my mind,” he said.

He moved to China in 2009 where he is now based.

“People think I am crazy but I always knew I wanted to do something like this. I have invested heavily in good research and development and am committed to the quality of our products which are all verified to the highest international standards.

“I am very proud to be from Bradford running a successful British company in China. We have Union flags in the factory and a portrait of The Queen in my office.”
