SNACKS maker Seabrook Crisps has sold nearly five acres of surplus development land adjacent to its base to an unnamed private local company.

In October the Bradford-based company appointed property consultancy Dove Haigh Phillips to market the “oven ready” prime development site at Ingleby Road to provide funds for future investment.

The agency had previously handled the sale of Seabrook’s redundant factory site at Allerton to Rock Developments and Aldi Stores for a new supermarket.

The value of both deals was undisclosed..

Jonathan Bye, Seabrook chief executive, said: “The business continues to grow so releasing this unused land is providing additional investment to ensure we can continue to fulfil increasing demand.

“We also hope the sale will lead to more benefits for the local economy, through subsequent investment by the future owners.

“ This is a good example of two Yorkshire firms working well together.”

DHP partner Mike Dove added: “These two deals have cemented our strong relationship with Seabrook Crisps and have also released money for Seabrook to invest in an expansion programme.

“The deals are also good news for Bradford, with redundant land being brought back to life. This was a perfect site which was already levelled and ready to go for the purchaser.

“The site is well located and in a city with many successful and expanding businesses and will now provide another welcome employment boost to Bradford.”

Seabrook Crisps, which currently employs around 150 people and celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, is set for future growth following a £35 million management buy-out last summer backed by leading mid-market private equity house LDC.

The company has a retail sales value of more than £32m, and continues to grow ahead of the overall crisp sector.

The company recently started exporting through a deal to supply a Middle East supermarket chain.
