A RENOWNED motorcycle dealership which invested £2 million in a new base in Baildon six years ago is set for further expansion which will create five new jobs..

Allan Jefferies, which has been named the UK’s number one retailer for BMW motorcycles, is to add another 3,000 sq ft to its purpose-built 14,000 sq ft Otley Road premises and completely refurbish the dealership which attracts customers from across from as far afield as Scotland and the south coast for new and used bikes, clothing, parts and service.

The move follows a year in which Allan Jeffries sold 500 new BMW bikes- the highest number of new registrations sold in one year.

Work on the new extension is due to start in July and be completed by the end of the year and will see Jeffries workforce rise to more than 30.

The 2010 investment double the size of its operations with a state of the art showroom and workshop.

Managing director Louise Jefferies said: “We already rank among the top five BMW Motorrad Retailers in Europe, top ten in the entire world and are very excited about these plans which will hopefully see us climb even higher.

"The extension and refurbishment will incorporate BMWs new worldwide branding and identity, and will hopefully allow us to reach our goal of selling over 1,000 bikes, both new and used, every year.”

The business is run by a family whose name is synonymous with motorcycling. It was established in 1901 by motoring pioneer Joseph Jefferies who was soon joined by his son Allan who gave the business its name.

Allan’s sons Tony and Nick both joined the company in the 1970s and emulated their father’s success in the business and in the saddle

In 1971 Tony Jefferies decided to take on the BMW franchise and Allan Jefferies became the UK's first officially appointed BMW motorcycle dealership .

Tony’s children Louise and David joined the business and David became one of Britain’s top motorcycle racers on the national and international circuits until is death in a crash while practising at the 2003 Isle of Man TT event.

Louise Jefferies took over as managing director in 2000, when the company employed nine people.

In 2012 Allan Jefferies was named Employer of the Year and Louise became Business Woman of the Year in the Telegraph and Argus Bradford Means Business Awards.
