SLIMMING down Morrisons top management continues with around another 20 senior executives set to be axed.

The move is part of new chief executive David Pott's drive for a leaner structure and follows last week's cull of five members of the Bradford-based company's 11-strong management board .

Those axed were customer marketing and digital director Nick Collard, retail director Martyn Fletcher, property and strategy director Gordon Mowat, logistics director Neal Austin and Nigel Robertson., managing director of the M Local convenience store chain.

A Morrisons spokesman said: ”Following last week’s announcement of a reshaped management board, we have also had a number of redundancy conversations with senior managers at the next level in our organisation. These steps are aimed at creating a simpler, leaner Morrisons.”

Mr Potts Morrisons also replaced checkout technology with people to keep checkout queues flowing in its supermarkets. He axed Morrisons store-based Intelligent Queue Management system which used infrared sensors to decide how many checkouts to keep open by counting how many customers were coming through the store.

Experienced store staff have taken over the role.
