Medium/Large Business Of The Year - Winner: Park House Healthcare

Park House Healthcare (PHH) took home the top honour in the Medium or Large Business of the Year category after winning highly commended at last year’s Bradford Means Business Awards.

The company, which was founded in 1984, is now recognised as a market-leading supplier of pressure area care equipment, specialist beds and moving and handling solutions to the NHS, community and nursing home sectors.

Peter Carroll, sales and marketing director of the Birkenshaw-based firm, said the family-owned business was “really happy” to win the award, which celebrates companies with a turnover in excess of £1 million who can prove they are weathering the economic storm and maintain their business profile in difficult times.

Speaking after the presentation, he said: “This means a lot to us.”

PHH began trading in East Bierley, but by 1989 had moved into its first office premises in Birstall, where managing director Stephen Owens and his team operated from for the next seventeen years.

It later relocated to its current state-of-the-art purpose-built corporate headquarters and warehousing logistics centre in Birkenshaw, which was opened by the Duke of Kent on July 24, 2007.

Peter said: “We are a family-run business and have been operating for around 28 years. Many of our employees, who are local people, have been with the company for 15 to 20 years.”

In a time of redundancies, and unemployment at a record high, PHH has created more than 70 jobs in their local area.

Their Bradford Means Business Award completes a hat-trick of awards for the firm.

The company gained national recognition for its approach to sales, quality and training in the 2011 British Healthcare Trades Association annual excellence awards, which followed an outstanding achievement award in the Medilink Healthcare business awards.

* Highly commended: PEC and Incommunities.
