Bradford inventor Jamal Ahmed has devised a simple device to secure wheelie bins which he hopes will provide the breakthrough to commercial success for his small business.
His company, J A Innovate, has already interested buyers at DIY giant B&Q and officials at several councils in the new wheelie bin lock Jamal launched J A Innovate Ltd three years ago to enable him to develop a range of ideas for new equipment after working as a painter and decorator for 16 years.
He has turned his mind to devising equipment mainly for the waste management sector, including a security device for skips and a tool for the removal of wheels and axles from wheelie bins so they can be re-used.
But it is the wheelie bin lock which Jamal, who is based at the Gumption Centre in Glydegate and has a fabrication operation at Allerton, hopes will enable him to clean up commercially.
“It does exactly what its says on the tin,” said Jamal. “It’s a wheelie bin lock to prevent it being stolen, used as a platform by burglars or blown over in strong winds and spilling the contents everywhere.
“I was motivated to devise the lock as a result of the rising number of reports about bin thefts where wheelie bins are used to carry away stolen items. The lock fits most bins currently on the market and comes complete with a padlock, screws and wall plugs and can easily be fence, post or wall-mounted."
