Tourism minister John Penrose attended a seminar at Leeds-Bradford International Airport to discuss plans for handling visitors to the London Olympic and Paralympic Games this summer.
He was joined by officials from other English airports and the national tourist board VisitEngland.
The event followed a ‘welcome audit’ by 15 UK airports and provided the opportunity for airport operators to share best practice.
VisitEngland chief executive James Berresford said: “Our airports play a vital role in a visitor’s first impression of a destination, both from overseas and at home.
“This is particularly important during one of the most exciting years for tourism in England and the event is a great example of the industry working together to make England’s airports the most welcoming in the world.”
Carl Lapworth, Leeds-Bradford’s operations director, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this project which gives airports across the country an opportunity to come together and share best practice on how to offer passengers with a warm welcome.
