Water company call centre staff in a specialist Bradford-based unit which has helped cash-strapped customers avoid and minimise debts have been named team of the year in a national industry awards.

Employees at Yorkshire Water's Thornbury contact centre, Loop Customer Management, clinched the title at the Utility Industry Achievement Awards – regarded as the highest accolade in the water and energy sectors. Loop’s high risk team, which was formed by Vimla Mistry, was rewarded for going the extra mile in the past year to reduce the level of high risk debt for the company – a key objective for Yorkshire Water.

Vimla Mistry said: “We’re always looking for new initiatives to improve our performance and it’s great for the team to get recognition for all the hard work in such a difficult economic climate.”

The team won against competition from the Energy Rebate Scheme, Scotia Gas Networks and Thames Water. Entries were judged by a panel of industry experts.

Alan Harrison, managing director of Loop Customer Management, said: “The high risk team has improved the service provided to our customers, preventing many from getting into debt and also helping those in difficulty getting out of debt. It’s a fantastic achievement to not only be shortlisted, but to win this award. The awards provide us with an opportunity to showcase all the hard work that goes on at Loop.”
