Suzannah Jackson can thank her three-year-old daughter Maisy-Rose for the brainwave which has led to her setting up her weight-loss business.

The 32-year-old was making candles with her daughter when she realised she did not feel like eating.

“It was a light bulb moment for me. I suddenly realised it was the scent of the candle suppressing my appetite,” said Suzannah, of Brocklebank Close, East Morton. “I did some more research with different scented candles, produced a prototype and tested it on family and friends.”

So convinced was she by the success of the product that she has now set up her own company to produce GlimmerSlim Appetite Suppressant Candles.

As well as selling online, she is hoping to get them in candle shops, beauticians and wedding shops. Longer-term, she wants to see the product on the shelves at big stores like Debenhams, Lewis’s and Harvey Nichols.

Before setting up the business, Suzannah, a mother-of-two, had worked in the weight loss business.

She said: “One of the most common problems is not being able to resist the urge to snack, especially in the evening. Our sense of smell is very closely linked with our appetite and my candles contain a secret blend of 100 per cent essential oils which release a pleasant fragrance which suppresses the appetite.”

They were made with soy wax which burned much longer than other wax and wooden wicks that make a relaxing sound as they burned, she said.

The candles come in a 7oz tin, cost £29.99 and burn for up to 57 hours.

Suzannah, who is at present manufacturing the product at home, intends to officially launch it on Wednesday, June 22, and people can visit the website glimmerslim.co.uk
