Business leaders have been urged to take the initiative in establishing Local Enterprise Partnerships which are set to replace the regional development agencies, including Yorkshire Forward.
Richard Lambert, director general of business lobby group the Confederation of British Industry, said during a visit to Yorkshire that the axeing of RDAs had caused anxiety in the business community.
There was also concern about the funding of LEPs, announced by ministers following a meeting of the Cabinet in Bradford- and who would run them.
Mr Lambert urged business leaders to grab the opportunity to establish LEPs and ensure they were business led, rather than wait for the Government to impose a system.
Bradford Chamber of Commerce is currently surveying its 1,100 members to get their reaction to the new proposals.
