A building services group has won an £8 million contract to design and refurbish eight new stores for the nationwide discount clothing store Primark.
Ilkley-based company Bailey, which is a division of NG Bailey, one of the United Kingdom's leading building services organisations, will refurbish the group's chain of shops over an eight-month period.
Taking each store back to its basics, Bailey will refit entire services systems, including CCTV systems, fire alarms, data systems, lighting, switchgear and mechanical plant.
The project is the second phase of a national expansion for the clothing retailer, which will result in the eventual conversion of more than 50 of the recently-acquired stores over an 18-month period.
Work has already begun at stores in Bradford, Coventry and Exeter and will be followed shortly by the refurbishment of stores in Camberley, Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Hanley and Oldham.
Bailey managing director, Martin Bailey, said: "The contract is a fantastic opportunity for Bailey and is an example of how we can effectively utilise our national network to deliver large projects for clients with a national coverage.
"We are working towards building a strong relationship with Primark over the next eight months and we hope that our successful completion of this project will ensure that we can work with the company again in the future."
