Family friend and Dragon’s Den star James Caan helped a Bradford-based Asian food group launch a new business idea which is set to go national.

He unveiled the first Jaldi Jaldi take-away launched by the Mumtaz Group. The name means ‘quickly quickly’ and the first outlet is at Forster Square Retail Park.

Another 20 Jaldi Jaldi take-away outlets are planned, with the first five due to open next year.

Each take-away will employ between six and eight staff and will create around 160 new jobs.

James and his family were the first official customers of Jaldi Jaldi and sampled karahi chicken followed by sticky toffee pudding.

James said: “It is delicious and as we say on Dragon’s Den – I’m in!”.

All Jaldi Jaldi dishes are prepared daily and delivered from Mumtaz’s £3m food production centre based in Mytholmroyd.

The centre produces the company’s range of meals and products, which are stocked by national supermarket chains such as Asda, Sainsbury, Tesco and the Co-op.

The take-away also sells a range of home-dining dishes that customers can take home to enjoy later.

Bill Kemberling, Mumtaz commercial director, said: “These are exciting times for the Mumtaz brand and our Jaldi Jaldi outlets.

“We have signed a further 20 outlets for the UK, five of which should be open by January 2010.

“The Jaldi Jaldi concept with its own unique branding and style will revolutionise the way people see and enjoy a take-away Indian meal.

“It is perfect for anyone who wants a fast, good quality meal at an affordable price.”

Mumtaz Food Industries was set up in 1978 by Mr Khan and has grown from a small take-away on Great Horton Road into a multi-million pound international business.

It employs more than 100 people and supplies customers in around 20 countries.

They also have exclusive deals with Harrods and Fortnum & Mason.
