Saltaire-based digital TV systems firm Pace has been selected ahead of its competitors to supply high definition set-top boxes to Latin America’s largest cable company for Brazil’s rapidly developing pay-TV market.
The deal will enable NET Serviços de Comunicação to continue its push for a fully HD digital customer base in Brazil.
Pace’s low environmental impact box will deliver content securely over the cable network and has been designed within the framework of the company’s own ‘Design for Environment’ standard.
It will comply with the EU Code of Conduct, EnergyStar and MEPS guidelines for environmental production and operational energy consumption in the home.
Márcio Carvalho, products and services director at NET said: “The Brazilian pay-TV market is rapidly developing and the provision of high definition content is increasingly becoming a service expectation in this part of the world as the market matures.
“This new deployment will dramatically increase our HD content reach and provides us with a platform to introduce additional entertainment services for subscribers.”
Pace has previously worked with NET, providing set top boxes to millions of consumers across Brazil.
This latest move will be NET’s next significant box rollout as the company moves towards a premium offer for its subscribers.
Hervé Matthieu, Pace vice president of sales, said: “NET has the greatest reach of any cable operator in this market and the deployment of our HD-capable set is a landmark step.
“This new set-top box will improve NET’s ability to deliver new and innovative services to its subscribers, allowing them to take full advantage of the best that TV today can offer. We’re delighted to have been selected ahead of our competitors and we look forward to our continued partnership with NET in the future.”
Last month Pace signed a deal to make high-definition set-top boxes for the largest free and pay-TV operator in Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Viasat, which is part of the Modern Times Group, chose Pace to launch its next generation high-definition receiver.
Earlier this year Pace won royal recognition for its pioneering work on high definition set-top boxes by winning its second successive Queen’s Award for Enterprise..
The company, which employs around 900 people, including 450 at its headquarters at Salts Mill, is now the third largest set-top box maker in the world. Pace is due to announce its interim results next week.
