A NEW report has revealed that the clean energy industry is growing faster than the rest of the UK economy.

The findings, from the Government’s advisory body, the Committee on Climate Change, have shown the wind and marine energy industries are growing and providing benefits to customers. The study shows that having more renewable energy in the system is driving down bills by providing more competition in the energy industry.

The cost of offshore wind farms has fallen dramatically and will continue to do so, the report has found.

Emma Pinchbeck, executive director at Renewable UK, said: “This report highlights the fact that the UK’s low-carbon sector is growing faster than the rest of the economy, already employing hundreds of thousands of people and contributing 2-3% of GDP, which is comparable in size to energy-intensive manufacturing.

“The CCC’s findings demonstrate wind and marine energy should be priorities.”
