A BRADFORD-based translation service is moving to a bigger premise and creating more jobs following a funding boost.

Enable2, based at Douglas Mill, Bowling Old Lane, will move to a new 4,700 sq ft site in Sunbridge Road this summer after it benefited from City Centre Growth Zone funding.

Run as a social enterprise, it has a network of 420 interpreters who speak more than 135 languages and dialects, who deliver face-to-face, telephone and video interpreting and written translation services.

Under its deal with Bradford Council, Enable2 has received a grant for two years to pay for the rates for its new premises.

It has also given seven of its temporary staff permanent contracts, which gives them a total of 16 employees. These include call centre staff, finance director, business and service manager.

Liz Weatherill, managing director of Enable2, said: “It’s a big help.

“The rates are around £24,000 for the two years.

“We are delighted to receive extra funding from Bradford Council and it will certainly help us to not only grow our business but get involved in more social return activities, which means putting resources back into local communities.

“The move is really exciting. We need more space.

“We are looking to move at the end of May/start of June.

“Video translation will be a big growth area for us.”

Enable2, which was launched in 2011 when it left the NHS, offers interpretation support to a number of clients ranging from NHS organisations, charities, local authorities and solicitors, including during cases held at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court, and areas including the Bradford district, Yorkshire and other parts of the country.

Its other work as a social enterprise has included a deal with the Country Trust, to offer children from deprived area a trip to the Yorkshire Dales.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, said: “This means new jobs coming into the city centre and the move into the new premises will help them grow their company further as they secure more contracts and increase their services.”
