BRADFORD will host a conference on the economic impact of the Northern Powerhouse - a day before a national report is published.

Inclusive Growth - Making It A Reality will be held on Monday, March 6, at Bradford College, follows a year-long national inquiry to identify practical ways to make local economies across the UK

The event will also feature case studies which show the progress made on the project so far. Businesses and residents from the region will describe their experiences of inclusive economic growth. Speakers at the event will include Northern Powerhouse Minister, Andrew Percy and Stephanie Flanders, managing director of JP Morgan Asset Management and chairman of the Inclusive Growth Commission.

Bradford Council leader, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe and her counterparts from Leeds, Cllr Judith Blake, and Wakefield, Cllr Peter Box, will speak on how their local authorities have been developing schemes to make sure economic growth benefits people in their cities.

The Bradford event follows a national inquiry to identify practical ways to make local economies in the UK more economically prosperous.

The inquiry will unvedil the Inclusive Growth Comission’s guide to recognise that it is the leaders, businesses and people of cities and towns that will help secure economic growth.

The inquiry, which has been held over the last 12 months, will publish its final report of recommendations the day after the Bradford conference.

The published report will include social and physical infrastructure investment and inclusive devolution.

Cllr Hinchcliffe said: “Bradford is exactly the right place for it.

“Government needs to back big cities like Bradford which has massive potential but which has been overlooked when it comes to Government investment for years.

“In Bradford we need decision-makers to take note of the report’s recommendations and turn them into action.

“Leeds City Region is already making inroads into securing decent jobs and providing the right skills for the local population.

“We want to build on all that work which will further boost the prosperity of the area.”
