STAFF at 93 My Local convenience stores will be hoping that Morrisons delivers on its promise to offer them jobs after the chain was put into administration .

The Bradford-based supermarket last week pledged to offer jobs to any My Local staff at stores which closed.

Morrisons sold its M Local convenience store chain to Greybull Capital in a deal fronted by retail entrepreneur Mike Greene, who appeared on Channel 4 show The Secret Millionaire.

The administration will result in the loss loss of more than 1,000 jobs.Buyers will be sought for the remaining stores. by administrators KPMG.

Morrisons said last week: "We are saddened and disappointed to learn that My Local is about to enter administration. We want to help our former colleagues who now work for My Local.

"We can therefore confirm that if no buyer is found, and stores close, we will welcome our former colleagues back to a job at Morrisons."

My Local has struggled to compete in the cut-throat grocery sector, which is embroiled in a bitter price war.

Mark Orton, partner at KPMG and joint administrator at My Local, said: "Management have faced tough trading conditions and despite their best efforts to improve performance, My Local was ultimately unable to return to viability.

"Although the majority of stores have now closed, we are in active discussions with a number of interested parties in relation to both the remaining 32 premises that are trading and a small number of those that have closed."
