BRADFORD accountants dug deep in their pockets for a cancer charity during their recent annual gathering.

An auction and other fundraising events at the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants dinner at the Midland Hotel raised more than £2,400 for the Marie Curie Hospice in Leeds Road, Bradford.

The money was handed over by society president Alan Wintersgill and other representatives to Marie Curie’s Sharon Link at the offices of Naylor Wintersgill accountants.

Mr Wintersgill, who received the BEM for his community work in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list, is serving his second term as president of the Bradford Society of Chartered Accountants, 17 years after first holding the office.

He said that, in spite of technological developments and social media, face-to-face networking through events such as the annual dinner was a tradition worth maintaining.

“We owe it to the future generations of Bradford professionals to keep these traditions thriving so they too can enhance their networking skills and learn the importance of relationship building,” he said.
