AN intrepid team of Yorkshire Business Club members will join a host of other Bradford firms to scale new heights by tackling the county’s three peaks charity challenge.

Gary Peacock, Midland Hotel manager, Kevin Larkin, self-employed physio, David Armitage, senior commercial consultant at Synergy People Solutions and Richard Ashton, of the Telegraph & Argus, will put on their hiking boots and take part in the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Bradford Business/Charity Challenge on Saturday, July 19.

Up to 30 other teams from a host of Bradford firms, including Morrisons, recruitment company Candelisa People and law firm Schofield Sweeney, have signed up for the fundraising test.

Each team’s times will be recorded on the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough during the 24-and-a-half-mile trek. They will meet at Horton In Ribblesdale at 6.30am, for a 7am start, with the demanding course expected to be completed within 12 hours.

These peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Prizes will he handed to the first three teams to finish and also to the fastest team with the highest cumulative age in a bid to crown Bradford’s fittest company.

All funds raised by the teams will go to One in a Million, a charity based at Valley Parade, Bradford, which helps inspire children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds through sports, arts and enterprise programmes.

Each participating team is expected to raise at least £1,000 and the funds will helps towards a £30,000 target to provide development centres for young people living in disadvantaged areas across Bradford.

Mr Peacock says, although competitive, there is “camaraderie” between all of the Bradford businesses taking part.

He said: “We’re looking forward to it.

“There are over 100 people taking part which is testament to the business community in Bradford is embracing it.

“There is a huge amount of respect and camaraderie in the Bradford business community because of the difficult times we’ve gone through in recent years.

“It’s a bit of a challenge, it will be competitive, there are some really, really fit guys and girls taking part. It’s great to be getting out with the guys and doing it charity.

“I’ve done the course before, so I know what to expect. It’s for a fantastic cause. Some of those young people need an opportunity and who knows, they could be the employees of the future in the city."

“The target is to raise £1,000 per team.”
