A software company which was honoured at this year’s T&A Bradford Means Business awards is looking to secure its skills base by supporting university students.

Cimlogic, based in Northgate, Baildon, has launched a graduate sponsorship programme through which it aims to provide work experience and jobs.

The move follows a growth in business at the company which designs and installs software systems for manufacturers to constantly check the efficiency of their equipment and processes. Demand came mainly from manufacturers seeking systems to improve efficiency.

The company, which employs 26 staff and was runner-up in the technical innovation category at the Bradford Means Business awards, has been working with the Yorkshire Universities organisation to fill graduate and student work placement places.

Managing director Mike Hodge said: “Industrial work placements are a great way to prepare undergraduate students for the workplace, as it gives them practical experience which they may not get from studying university text books.

“They’re a perfect opportunity to develop team working skills and to ultimately boost a student’s employability.”

Ilya Karichev, studying for a masters degree in automatic control and systems engineering at Sheffield University, is a student to be selected for the sponsorship programme after completing a 12-week summer internship at Cimlogic where he worked as a control systems engineer in the automation department. Ilya said “I have gained a lot experience from completing a summer internship at Cimlogic. It has enabled me to put the theory learnt at university into practice, with the help of some really experienced and friendly members of staff.”

“I have worked on a big project for one of the company’s largest customers. It’s been great to work on the project from start to finish, to learn about the customer’s manufacturing operations and to see the end result.”

Dr Robin Purshouse, lecturer in the Department of Automatic Control and Systems Engineering at Sheffield University, said: “We strongly encourage our students to apply for both summer placements and our ‘Year In Industry’ degree programmes to enhance their employability.”

Cimlogic Ltd was established in 1997 and customers include firms in food and beverage, pharmaceutical and processing industries.
