A Guiseley student is preparing to step into the shoes of the Monetary Policy Committee in a bid to impress a panel of experts with her prescription for the economy.

Annabel Asquith is one of four sixth form students from the Grammar School at Leeds, through to the national final of Target Two Point Zero – the Bank of England and The Times Interest Rate Challenge.

Along with team mates Calum Grant, Stuart Duffy and Daniel Gross, Annabel is travelling to the Bank of England on Friday to face a panel chaired by the Bank’s deputy governor Charles Bean and including three members of the Monetary Policy Committee. They will give a presentation assessing the risks to inflation and making recommendations to limit the inflation rate.

Annabel, who hopes to study accounting and finance at university next year, said: “Having listened to last year’s team presenting I realised that entering the competition was a good way to learn about real-world economics beyond the A level syllabus.”
