Leaving EU is a risky strategy

SIR - Steve Arloff (T&A letters, May 30) seems to think I stated that only ''leavers'' didn`t understand the implications of Brexit. Nothing could be further from the truth!

British troops didn't routinely use live rounds

SIR - Many thanks and apologies to Martin O'Hara for pointing out the omission I made about the actions of the British army in Northern Ireland on Bloody Sunday when troops did indeed use live rounds on innocent civilians, (T&A letters, June 2).

How much value do we place on the environment?

SIR - Can the Government be trusted to put a high enough priority on our environment? What with their enthusiasm for fracking and toleration of high levels of air pollution in our country over many years, many might answer, "Not really!" Yet, only a few months ago, Environment Secretary, Michael Gove, promised, (after Brexit), "a world-leading body to give the environment a voice and hold the powerful to account."

End hostilities towards immigrants

SIR - It is very sad to think what kind of country we have become when we hear stories of people who have been here for decades being deported or denied healthcare.

Where's the Brexit bonus?

SIR - In June 2016 Michael Gove and Boris Johnson etc. promised us a “Brexit dividend”. Money would be saved in this country by leaving the EU, they said.

This result is how democracy is supposed to work

SIR - Alec Suchi (T&A letters, May 8) claims that if the House of Lords "succeeds in preventing Brexit", (ie by having amendments accepted by the House of Commons and not just the Government), "a high price would be paid in terms of public trust in the integrity of the political process".
