    I have a silly idea. For a month during summer, why not have a temporary arch erected at our two railway stations for incoming passengers only. Each arch would be signposted ‘For people who are visiting solely for the purpose of seeing our City Park /fountains’. read more

    SIR – I have recently read a report regarding a steam locomotive which passed through Shipley on Sunday, July 22. The restored Waverley ‘Scots Guardman’ will run for eight Sundays on the Settle/Carlisle line, departing York, Leeds, Shipley, Keighley and Skipton . read more

    SIR – Re Letters, July 26. Karl Dallas is correct to state that car parking is still free after 2pm in the car park above the Oastler Shopping Centre, or John Street Market as some would say. read more

  • Rise in unemployment inevitable

    SIR – I am in full agreement with the letter by Bob Holland “Not jobless fault” (T&A, July 9), with regards to the attitudes of politicians towards unemployment in this region. read more

    SIR – Many people are concerned about preserving the Odeon/New Victoria Building. I am in full agreement with this aim, but would suggest, firstly, that the name Odeon should be dropped – New Victoria is more attractive and also unusual. read more
