Stalemate situation
SIR – Re “Carnegie clean-up”, D Lawson’s appeal to have Windhill’s neglected Carnegie Library cleaned up (Letters, June 16). Ward Councillors, Lib-Dem and Labour, have pushed at times for the site to be cleaned up/developed and occasionally something has been done. read more

Turning back clock?
While the Prime Minister was desperately trying to distance himself from Rupert Murdoch at the Leveson Enquiry, his public school pal, the Chancellor, thought it would be a good time to slip out a little more assistance to the beleaguered and poverty-stricken bankers. read more

Uniforms a symbol of proud history
SIR – I am saddened at the various contributors complaining about the Haworth 1940s weekend. As a Second World War veteran with nine awards, I found it highly entertaining, full of memories and a good day out. read more

Let’s keep it positive
SIR – At the recent Respect party conference held in Bradford, its newly-elected MP for Bradford West, George Galloway, called for what amounts to a Jarrow-style march to London in order to highlight the city’s problems. read more

Lack of tolerance
SIR – So the Chinese Olympic team is threatening to leave Leeds because of a visit by the Dalai Lama. Get the buses ready and let them go! read more

Words were clear
SIR – Councillor David Green shows usual ineptitude with the remark he made in the story of the closure of Thomas Cook, on the latter’s statement that its Bradford office cost more per desk than those in Falkirk and Peterborough (T&A, June 14). His words “whatever that means” sum up his ability to enter into negotiations with anybody. read more
