Readers' letters

  • ‘No’ to renaming

SIR – St Stephen’s Tower was so named because he was the first Christian martyr (Acts of the Apostles, 6-7) and the bell in that tower was originally given the nickname Big Ben after it was cast in 1858. read more

  • A fitting name

SIR – Once more a new idea for the Odeon is raised (T&A, May 11) which sounds a good idea for the future of the building. read more

  • Ukip’s support

SIR – It was preposterous and mischievous, to say the least, of the Conservative baroness to claim on live TV that any increase in Ukip vote could be linked to the decrease in the BNP’s. read more

  • Swimming pool praise

SIR – Can I just praise Keighley swimming baths? The parking is fine and accessible. On entering the building the staff smile and are welcoming. read more

  • Cameron challenge

SIR – Cameron won’t change. After getting beaten badly it seems that Cameron hasn’t learned anything. If he wants to beat Miliband he will have to give us what we want. read more

  • Terry for superhero

SIR – I’m not sure if he realised it, but Terry Tordoff (Letters, May 7) highlighted both the lack of local superheroes and its solution too. read more

  • Another disgusting habit in our streets

SIR – With recent letters highlighting dog mess being left due to inconsiderate owners, I have a concern about the amount of people, from both sexes, “coughing up”and spitting, which you tend to notice quite frequently in Bradford, so much so that I regularly disinfect outside my gate. Also it looks disgusting. read more

  • Motorway nuisance

SIR – I can understand Mr Ebage’s frustration with lorry drivers (T&A, May 8). read more

  • More trees needed!

SIR – I think I might have come across a solution to the problem of drunks and violence outside the pubs in the centre of Bradford on a Friday and Saturday night. read more

  • Held to ransom

SIR – How many of our major sporting events have disappeared to Sky Sports because of the close relationship between our politicians and clan Murdoch? read more

  • Left out of pocket

SIR – Once again the school allocation plan has backfired. This has been going on for the last four years, brought to my knowledge by my misfortune to have to deal with SERCO. read more

  • Motorists’ rights

SIR – Charles Russell (Letters, May 10), rightly and adversely, criticises drivers who eschew bus lanes, when they are legally available to them. read more

  • Drivers ignorant about bus lanes

SIR – More bus lane cameras, more chaos at the end of them. When will people learn that you are allowed to use them except in the designated time periods? read more
