Shoppers Warned To Beware Of Pickpocket

February 9, 2001 16:20: POLICE are warning supermarket shoppers to keep a watchful eye on their valuables after a woman pickpocket targetted shoppers in Watford.

The woman, who has been described as between 30 and 40 years old with a blonde ponytail and heavy makeup, is believed to be responsible for at least six thefts from shoppers since Sunday, January 21.

The offender has been distracting shoppers in Sainsbury stores at the Dome roundabout and in Albert Road South by asking them about the price of foods or which produce to buy.

While she distracts them she has stolen their purses from trolleys, open handbags or pockets.

Police are appealing to shoppers to be on their guard if anyone speaks to them while shopping and not to leave purses, wallets or handbags in trolleys.
