SHERWOOD Joan Mary (nee Harker) Formerly of Heaton, Eccleshill and Simpson Grove in Idle and more recently, of Bow Street near Aberystwyth, died peacefully, aged 91, on October 17 at Abermad Nursing Home near Aberystwyth. Devoted wife of the late Alfred Sherwood, loving mother of Chris, Anne-Marie, Pippa and Nick, she will be fondly remembered as a special nan to Joe and Claire, Hannah, Jonathan and Laura, great-nan to Skyler and Mali, affectionate mother-in-law of Jackie and Pete. Before moving to Mid Wales with her husband in 2000, Joan lived in Bradford for forty years. Born and brought up in Clifford near Leeds, Joan loved music and played the piano at the Gainsborough Stage School in Bradford during the 60s and 70s, during which time she trained as a nursery nurse at Bradford Technical College and was employed at St Mary’s Nursery. She was a devout Catholic and will be remembered for her valued contributions as a former parishioner of St. Cuthbert’s and St. Brendan’s, and as church organist at the Immaculate Conception Church in Idle where Joan and Alf had many special neighbours and friends and spent many happy years. A funeral will be held at Aberystwyth Crematorium at 12.00 noon, Tuesday, November 4. Family flowers only, donations if desired towards Aberystwyth Day Centre (cheques payable to Ceredigion County Council), c/o C.
