Guiseley today signed winger or striker Derek Asamoah who was a free agent after leaving Carlisle United this month.

Born in Accra, Ghana he started his career with Hampton and Richmond in the 1999-2000 season before moving on to Slough Town.

The 35-year-old made his Football League bow with Northampton Town, scoring 30 goals in 112 appearances.

Asamoah then joined Mansfield Town before becoming a Lincoln City player in 2005-6.

He played 35 times for the Imps and had 17 games at Chester on loan before moving to Shrewsbury Town, where he made 39 appearances.

In 2007 he joined French club OGC Nice without having clearance form Shrewsbury and didn't play a single game.

He had spells in Scotland with Hamilton Academicals, in Bulgaria with Lokomotiv Sofia and in South Korea with Pohang Steelers and Daegu FC before joining Carlisle United in 2014.

He played 75 games for Carlisle, including eight earlier this season, before becoming a free agent.

He gained four international caps for Ghana in 2006.

Carlisle manager Keith Curle said: “He's been a pleasure to work with but he is at an age where he needs to be playing football and, with the players we have here now, I couldn't guarantee him the pitch time he wanted."

Guiseley CEO Adie Towers said: “Derek is a vastly experienced player and we welcome him to the club. He is expected to be available for our trip to Macclesfield on Saturday.”
