QUEST Taekwondo's Harriet Akeroyd has taken gold at an international masters event in Germany.

The teenager from Settle won all three of her bouts in the Nordrhein-Westfalische Taekwondo Union (NWTU) event in Bonn, defeating two Germans and, in the final, a Spaniard.

But Harriet wasn't the only local Quest medallist as fellow 18-year-old Jacob Barnett, of Baildon, got a bronze after beating a German and a Dane by 12 points before narrowly missing out on a final berth by losing his semi-final on a golden point after drawing 8-8.

Over 70 European teams were competing, but Quest Taekwondo were the tenth-best team, winning two golds and three bronzes in all from their seven-strong squad.

Quest Taekwondo train at Titus Salt School on Tuesdays and Thursdays (7pm-8.30pm) and more information is available from Mike McKenzie on 07938-949923 or www.questtaekwondo.org.

Meanwhile, Kings Karate Club, who were only formed two years ago in Bradford, took 15 members aged between seven and 14 and won 11 medals at the Halifax Karate Cup – two golds, four silvers and five bronzes across a number of disciplines, including kata and fighting.

The club hold classes on Wednesdays and Fridays at Footsteps Theatre School, Westfield Lane, Idle, BD10 8PY.
