The weather has been warm and dry in recent weeks, and weed is starting to choke many rivers, especially in the upper reaches, and fishing remains difficult at times.

However, evening fishing on trout waters has been productive, with large numbers of good-sized fish reported from club stretches.

New BCAA stretches on the River Swale at Topcliffe and Salmon Hall have also been fishing well, with barbel reported almost every day since the start of the season.

Fishing at night at Salmon Hall, new member Debbie Hardisty caught a chub estimated at nearly 7lb on hair-rigged luncheon meat.

In coarse-fishing lakes, spawning seems to be over for now, with waters fishing well.

Anglers at Shipton report several different 20lb carp in the last week, and plenty of other fish in the teens. Some large nets of bream have come to hand, and tench up to 8lb 3oz have been showing well.

The fishery had a double-page feature in the Angling Times this week, and this has brought in some new members.

If any anglers still wish to join the club, they can do so via Jim Munden on 07940-814431 or online through the link on the BCAA website at www.bradfordcityaa.co.uk.

The next BCAA match is the Copper Kettle Challenge, to be fished at Boroughbridge on Sunday.  Spaces are still available. Bookings and more details from Rod Brooksbank on 07875-275749 or Steve Fox on 07708-260004.
