Bradford Bulls players make good first impression on Jimmy Lowes

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Jimmy Lowes' first game in charge of the Bulls is at his former club Warrington Jimmy Lowes' first game in charge of the Bulls is at his former club Warrington

NEW Bulls boss Jimmy Lowes got a warm welcome from his players on his first day at the office yesterday.

The head coach hit the ground running at the Bulls’ training headquarters as preparations began for Sunday’s trip to Warrington.

Lowes met his squad for the first time and was left impressed with their attitude and the facilities at Tong.

He said: “It was good to meet the players and they seem like a good bunch.

“I had been to Tong before when Steve McNamara was at the Bulls and it's certainly a very good facility.

“The pitches, dressing rooms and the gym are excellent and it was great to get to know the lads.

“Generally in rugby, if you go to a new club, 99.9 per cent of players are very welcoming. Everyone here has been great.”

Lowes’ first game in charge of the Bulls will be against the club where he had his only previous spell as a Super League head coach.

He added: “Warrington are a good side and if you give them opportunities they will take them.

“They did that in the Challenge Cup game but, just because there is no pressure on us, it will still be a very tough encounter.

“We’ll put pressure on ourselves and there’s no such thing as a no-pressure game.”

Lowes has yet to appoint an assistant but Oldham coach Scott Naylor is not thought to be in the running.

Too late this season its a thankless task trying to get any points from the remaining fixtures, just hope its not rhinos that hammer the final nail in the coffin in august!!! Jimmy needs to do what Brian Smith did in the last season before the advent of SL and take a good look at all the players and totally overhaul things. Just hope Marc Green's good to his word and backs up his coach in all aspects of team building

Seeing as you know everything we will let Jimmy consult you. No point in wasting our time.

I am not sure what other views are regarding the expected mass exodus of
current players.

Whilst I strongly question the abilities and commitment throughout the entire season of some of our current players.... after all, we are in the position now due to their lack of performance.

However I'm a bit angry at the thought that these guys appear now to be voicing that because inevitability of relegation is upon us, they are going to be exercising their contractual rights of leaving ... to be free agents, no compensation coming our way and they can try secure better terms with a SL club. Sounds ridiculous to me but seems that even if the Bulls wanted to retain their services on same contract.... it's not our decision.

Not a good story to hear by a set of already demoralised fans with a season some way off completion

I would expect all the current players, apart from walker and diskin to think they could join another SL club. Those 2 are too old. IMO not many of them will get a SL contract. Maybe Kearney but he is always injured. Kear has been very consistent and is worth a go. Gaskell looks a quality player and may look better in a good team. Can't see the rest getting snapped up. Wonder what pay reduction the current players can expect in the championship.
