Jamie Foster column

Last week’s game against Warrington was a bit of a strange one for me, to be quite honest, after being told I wasn’t in the team.

But to finish on such a high was an unbelievable feeling and I couldn’t have written the script any better.

After the Challenge Cup tie against Catalan, it was just a case of getting my head down and working on a few little things I knew I needed to improve on.

It was great to score those points against the Dragons but straight after the game I knew there were areas I could have been better at.

These are things the team prides itself on defensively and I do too.

We’re not a team full of superstars – we work hard for each other – and I did slack a little bit in the Catalan game.

I wasn’t at it 100 per cent and I knew I needed to work on things.

I said to myself that when I next got my chance I would do that and luckily enough it turned out to be the week after against Warrington.

After Luke George pulled out through injury, I dropped in and it was just a case of doing my best.

It couldn’t have gone any better really, could it?

I really hope to keep my place but to have that competition is fantastic and I’m glad I’ve got people snapping at my heels.

It’s getting like that in most positions in the team now and can only benefit us.

If we can keep improving the competition for places, then we’re only going to get better.

It’s not about being good for yourself, it’s about being good for the team.

Looking ahead to this weekend’s visit of St Helens, it would be absolutely fantastic to beat them and make it a hat-trick of wins.

But as big as the Saints game is, we’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

Lee Gaskell and I are former St Helens players but it’s all about getting the two points and nothing else matters.

It’s so refreshing to look at the Super League table now and us not to be at the bottom.

Let’s hope we keep climbing the ladder.
