Magic Monday for Brighouse
Brighouse Town were presented with the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division champion’s trophy on Monday but the celebrations had already died down by then.
Paul Quinn’s men had won the title with two games to spare last Saturday. The good times began then and they were not the only things that were flowing.
Town’s chairman Ray McLaughlin said: “The title win has sunk in now – as in terms of everyone sobering up at least!
“All of the players, the coaches, the committee and some of the fans all had a good night on Saturday. We were all out together and had a great time but it was a long night.
“We hadn’t been presented with the trophy then and we weren’t sure when it was going to be given out.
“The important thing for us was we had got the job done and could relax a little.
“It has been a highly pressurised run-in. Not just in terms of the number of fixtures but because they were all must-win games.
“That kind of run really takes its toll.”
The NCE League contacted the club to arrange presentation of the trophy after their Easter Monday home game against Bridlington Town.
That gave McLaughlin and his fellow committee men the chance to turn the day into a celebration for the whole club.
He said: “Our ladies team had won their league and Brighouse Juniors under- 13s had won the Huddersfield Cup for their age group. Those two trophies had already been handed out but we got them all down to the ground and, at half-time, our manager Quinny re-presented both teams with them so they got the applause from the crowd.
“It was good to see all of the teams coming together and the silverware on show. The players formed guards of honour for each other’s teams.
The girls had a good season and were unbeaten in the league. Rob Mitchell runs the team and he has done a great job.
“The under-13s are linked to us but they are not Brighouse Town. Lots of people think they are but they are Brighouse Juniors.
“They are aligned with us though and were very much a part of what was a special day for Brighouse.”
